This month Village Quilters will host the popular “Members Teaching Members” program. This year our lineup of resident experts includes:
Donna Derstadt, who will teach us a new “Super Fast Binding” technique.
Dorothy Roderick, who will demonstrate “Confetti Quilts”.
Judy Hillebrand will do a presentation on “Labels”; something we will all need on our quilts for the October show.
Judi Young, who will demonstrate her method of making “Fabric Wreaths”.

March Workshop: Sew-In for the Quilt Show
Wednesday, March 22, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Join us for a day of companionship and quilting as we prepare for “Quilts from the Village XV”. Members can use this time to work on any project related to the quilt show. There was a sign-up sheet at the last meeting. If you haven’t signed up, but are planning to attend, please email Barbara Schober so that there will be enough space. There is no fee for the Sew-In.
President’s Letter
Last month’s meeting was a parade of fabulous quilts. From antiques to recent work, President’s quilts and family treasures, we enjoyed seeing all of them. I found the stories touching and entertaining. This program allowed us to share with members, and get to know a little more about each other.
Our raffle quilt made its debut at the meeting. Thank you to all the members who worked on the quilt. A special thank you to Kate Klein, Nancy Smith and Erica Jarrett for volunteering to create the quilt from the design through to the quilting. It will be easy to sell our raffle tickets with such a prize.
Deb Sherrock and Cheryl Mercy, our Service committee, hosted a Quilts of Valor Sewing Day. We enjoyed seeing a number of Quilts of Valor Deb has worked on. We had a great turnout, and are inspired to complete our Quilts of Valor.
The next Sewing Day will be Wednesday, March 22. It is an open day to work on any quilt show related items. Think about the quilts you wish to submit to the show, small quilt auction items or finish your Quilt of Valor. Please email me if you wish to attend. There is no charge, but we need to have a count to plan our space for the day. The last Sewing Day will be in April focusing on the quilt show boutique.

The Village Quilters Raffle Quilt is Done!!!
Fun Facts for…
Village Quilters Raffle Quilt 2017
Those Bloomin’ Dots is the name of the quilt. It is
91” square, contains
242 nine patches made up of
2178 colored one inch squares. There are
312 colored triangles in the border and
216 dots among the appliqued vines and flowers.
Village Quilter Members Participated in its Making
“Those Bloomin’ Dots” was made by 35 guild members;
24 ladies made nine patches,
17 ladies made half square triangles, and
10 ladies appliqued the borders.
The quilt top was made with all donated fabric.
The Design
The quilt top was designed by Nancy Smith, Erica Jarrett and Kate Klein.
The flower border was designed by Kate with help from Erica and Nancy.
Nancy machine quilted “Those Bloomin’ Dots”.
And what a wonderful job they all did! “Those Bloomin’ Dots” is magnificent!
Quilt Show Layout Committee Help Wanted Now
Time to set up a committee to plan our quilt show layout. There is work to be done now and more during the summer, but we need to get started now. I'm a leader who needs a team of four to make our show come together and look fabulous. Give me a call (or even better, find a friend and give me a call). I'm looking forward to getting started.
Among other things we decide where each quilt is hung and enjoy an early look at all the quilts.

Register Your Quilt for the Show
The online registration form is now live! Register your quilts for the 2017 quilt show here. The instructions are on the website with the link to the form.
Remember, filling out and submitting the form is just the first step in registering your quilt. Once you submit the form, you will receive a confirmation email within 5 days, so watch for it. Reply to the confirmation email and attach a picture of your finished quilt. You will receive a second email confirming completion of your entry.
If you would like to have Kearstie photograph your completed quilt, fill out the entry form and submit it ahead of time and bring the quilt along with its name (which you have already entered online) to a meeting. Pictures may be taken about 15 minutes before the start of a meeting or immediately after the meeting.
Silent Auction
The Silent Auction Committee has received several beautiful items for our silent auction at the quilt show. We are thrilled and anxiously awaiting more. Please use the next few weeks of unpredictable weather to make something. Remember, proceeds from the silent auction are pure "gravy" for the guild; last year we made over $2,000.00. Let your creative instincts loose to the benefit of the guild!
Quilt of Valor Label Information
Are you wondering what information to include on the fabric label you attach to the back of a Quilt of Valor? The following information is from the Policy and Procedure Manual found on the Quilts of Valor website – Appendix E.
A Quilt of Valor must be labeled as such.
Information that must be included on a Quilt of Valor label:
The words “Quilt of Valor”
The quilt maker(s) name including city and state – include maker of the top and quilter
While full names are allowed, IL state QOV coordinator prefers first name & last initial only
Must include space for name of recipient
May include date and location of award – leave blank if donating for future use
May include washing instructions (cold water, mild soap, “color catcher,” dry on low heat)
May include an expression of gratitude or a dedication (i.e, “My dad, a Vietnam Veteran”)
CANNOT include a religious or political message
The label can be a purchased label (some quilt shops sell individual QOV labels) or can be a label of your own design (hand written in permanent ink, embroidered, pieced, computer generated, screen printed).

Boutique Update
The information sheet for Boutique Vendors was passed out at the last meeting but if you did not receive yours, the information is available on the Members Show Info page. We are planning on vendors being able to sign up at the March meeting and will provide that opportunity for you. In addition, we are hoping that Bees and/or individuals or groups will plan to make something to contribute to the Boutique that will help give the Guild a monetary boost as did the Scrapapaloosa and the aprons last year. To help with this opportunity we will be using the workshop day in April as a “Project day” for you work on ideas you have and receive some ideas from us. There will be more on this later. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact one of us. We value your assistance with this undertaking!

Quilting for the Quilt Show: Longarm Deadlines
As we finish our quilts for the show, we should be thinking about the deadline to ask one of our talented machine quilters for their assistance. Keep in mind the July 31 deadline to submit your quilt to hang in the show. If you also do machine quilting for hire and would like to be included on this list, email Barbara Schober with your information. Contact information for the machine quilters below is available on the Village Quilter's Resources page.
Barbara Jolley - I have linked my Facebook posts to my website/blog page. I will be updating my Facebook with my current turnaround time so members who have quilts to be done before the July 31 deadline will know how much time they have to get their quilts to me. Anyone wanting to get on my schedule can call me as soon as they know when their quilt will be ready and I will assign a date for them.
Amy Parker, Evanston Quilt Company - My deadline is June 15 for custom, and July 15 for edge to edge, but I will try to be as flexible as possible!
Dawn Larsen - A July 1st deadline would be good- but I am no longer doing custom work. I will still do semi-custom, which is an all-over pattern in the center and something different in the border.
Quilt Festival at Rosemont
Our guild's priority is to fill our commitment for white glove and raffle ticket sales. Donna Derstadt is coordinating that schedule. However, the organizers of Quilt Festival also have a few paid positions available. See below for details from the show organizers:
“We're looking for enthusiastic people to work at Quilt Festival in Chicago (April 6-8) this year. We have a number of paid positions available before, during and after the show. If you are interested, please send an email to worktheshow@quilts.com and include the name of the show in the subject line.”

Membership
We welcomed one guest, a former member, at our February meeting, Christine Siqueirn.
The membership year for Village Quilters is May 1 through April 30, and it is time to renew for the 2017-18 year. Annual membership remains at $50, BUT you save $5 if you renew by April 30. This year you have the option to renew online–submitting your membership form and/or paying the dues with a credit card.
To submit your membership form online:
- Visit the Membership Form (also available on the “Join Us” page under “Members” or the orange renewal banner at the top of each page.)
- Complete the membership form and click the REGISTER button to submit the membership form.
To pay your dues online with a credit card:
- Scroll down to Step 2 on the the Membership Form and click the ADD TO CART button under Option 1: Pay Online. A black box with a shopping cart icon and “1 item” should appear in the upper right hand corner of the window.
- Click the black box (shopping cart) to view your cart and checkout as you would for an online purchase.
If you don’t wish to pay by credit card online, you can mail a check to Membership, Village Quilters of Lake Bluff/Lake Forest, PO Box 821, Lake Forest, IL 60045 or pay by cash or check at monthly meeting.
