Holiday Party

WinterParty.jpg

Come Join us for an evening of friendship and laughter!

You are invited to Village Quilters Annual Holiday Party on our regular meeting night, Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 6:30-9:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church in Lake Bluff. Enjoy a lovely, catered pasta dinner from Deerfield’s Italian Kitchen, and an evening of fun and holiday cheer with other guild members. The cost is $12.00 per person. Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM!

Please bring a wrapped gift (value $15.00) for a special game. The gift should have either a sewing or a holiday theme. For example, the gift can be a ruler, fabric or a quilt book. Participation is limited to those that bring a wrapped gift.

Note: There is no Show and Tell this evening. You have an extra month to finish your projects!

We look forward to enjoying an evening of celebration with our quilting friends!

February 2020 Workshop

Ready to Fracture a Few Fat Quarters?

Our final workshop for this fiscal year will be Fractured Fat Quarters with Marla Yeager on Wednesday, February 19th. This is a quick and easy quilt that uses 17 to 21 fat quarters with a slick stack, slice, shuffle, and sew technique to make a bed-size quilt. Join us for fun, friendship, and make a fabulous, functional quilt as well.

Check out the workshop description and register for Fractured Fat Quarters soon! Don't wait too long to register...this workshop opens to non-members on December 18!

News from the President

Friends,

PresidentMarti2.jpg

The busy season is here. Are you ready? I have learned that it doesn’t matter what I get done, or don’t get done. Life goes on and it’s OK.

I hope all who want to attend our December get-together has sent in a check or paid for dinner at the November meeting. Deb Dodd, Karen Jacobsen, and Jocelyn Galloway have a fine evening planned for us. It will be an evening of fun with friends and no stress!

Over the holidays, if you are inspired to declutter your quilting studio, remember that our Brown Bag Hustle takes place at our January meeting. This is a good way to get rid of the fabric, quilting books, patterns, and other quilting supplies that you know you will never use. By donating you give your fabric a new life. Remember the famous quote “One quilter’s trash is another quilter’s treasure”.

Take care of yourself during this busy time of the year. Sit down at the machine, or sit down and stitch, or sit down and plan your next project, or just sit down and rest!

Marti Austin, President

Lake Bluff 125th Anniversary in 2020

Lake Bluff will celebrate its 125th anniversary during 2020. The committee planning this yearlong event would like to involve all village organizations in the celebration. We are Village Quilters of Lake Bluff/Lake Forest, so our guild was contacted in the late spring of this year about making a quilt or wall hanging. I told the committee representative that we needed to get through our quilt show and take a breath before I mentioned it to our guild. Fear of impeachment or mutiny was my motivation for this decision.

We are breathing now, so now is the time. Several members have already volunteered to work on this project, but more are welcome and needed. What we don’t have is a person who will coordinate this project. The piece should be finished by May and no later than June 1. It will not be a large piece, 40” x 40” or 50” x 50”. It will be an original design. The piece may be paper pieced and it may have some appliqued highlights.

If you would like to be involved from the very beginning, or if you would like to be involved in its production, let me know. Email me, or say something to me at the December or January meeting.
