October Program: Jacquie Gering

Jacquie is a passionate modern quilt maker and designer. She is known for her innovative "out of the box" designs, striking message quilts and unique style. Her work has been featured in both national and international publications as well as several books. Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts is her first book.

Jacquie is a leader in the modern quilting community and is a member of the Chicago Modern Quilt Guild, former president of the Kansas City MQG and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Modern Quilt Guild. She blogs and shares her quilting knowledge on her popular blog, Tallgrass Prairie Studio.

Check out Jacquie's work in her online portfolio.

Jacquie will also teach a workshop on modern crazy quilting.

President's Letter

Wasn't Amy Walsh's talk fun? I love her way of looking for color combinations in nature. My eyes are seeing new combinations now, especially as signs of fall appear. I couldn't attend her workshop. I hope it was as much fun as it promised to be. I have one of her patterns and a stack of fabrics to start a new project.

I was out of town quite a bit last month helping my mother relocate to northern Minnesota near my brother. Of course I found new quilt shops on my way. I now have a delightful but challenging wool applique quilt to work on from one shop and some very unusual Minnesota batiks from another shop. My brother got a list of good Minnesota quit shops from a co-worker. I will surely visit more of them in the future.

I am still working on the Kaffe Fasset diamond quilt. Sometimes life surely gets in the way of quilting, doesn't it?

We are looking for members interested in working on the program committee. Please volunteer or I will have to twist a few arms.

See you at the meeting.

Service

While there is a little over a year or so before the 2015 quilt show, it is never too early to start planning your support of the VQ's Annual Service Project - QUILTS OF VALOR ! At the October meeting, don't forget to come by and check out the "VQ WANTS YOU" information table. There will be handout information about the Quilts of Valor website, sample patterns for quilts and the presentation cases, basic requirements, and the like. VQ did so well with last year's service project by collecting over 40 beautiful quilts, surely we can do as well or better for the men and women who defend our freedom.
