Designing Fabric

Although Deb Strain spends “lots of hours” in her home studio, one of her favorite things to do is speak with Quilters about the process of fabric design. As a 28 year veteran of the industry, Deb loves to share how her hand drawn and hand painted artwork evolves into lovely fabric by Moda. She has been a Moda designer since 1996. Hand drawing and hand painting her fabric lines, Deb has created over 100 fabric groups since she began working with Moda. She loves working with different colors and patterns, the more intricate the better! Deb says, “It is exciting to work with color and pattern that eventually becomes fabric and then becomes a quilt or treasured project enjoyed by many.”

Her presentation is conducted casually, with questions welcome. Using artwork from actual fabrics, quilters are guided through her journey of fabric design from initial concept to delivery in your favorite quilt store.

The program ends with a parade of 20-30 quilts made over the years from Deb’s fabrics, providing ideas for future quilts to make, and the availability of purchasing Deb's fabrics and other quilting supplies. Fun stories of how Deb got started and adventures along the way will make this a light-hearted, yet informative presentation. As Deb explains, “Spending time with Quilters and talking about fabric is about as good as it gets!”
