February 2022

Program: New York Beauty State of Mind

Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 7:00 PM via Zoom

Thank you to all who tuned in to our January meeting – I love that we were able to pivot seamlessly to an online program. Who would have been able to imagine that two years ago!

Lois Hallock delivered an excellent presentation on how to help keep our sewing spaces ergonomic and organized – I know I took another look around my space and have some plans for improvements in mind. She has an excellent book available on her website with lots of really good before and after photos.

February brings another online meeting, lecture, and workshop. We have scheduled Linda Hahn from Frog Hollow Designs to get us into a “New York Beauty” state of mind. Workshop information is on the website. I have a few spaces open in the workshop and a few kits left. There are examples of the Wicked Wahini on Linda’s Facebook page.

In March we have an online meeting as well. Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr are back to share a new virtual lecture and curved piecing class. Even though this lecture and class is not in person, we are very lucky to have these talented quilters in our area.

See you online!

Christine’s Chatter

Baby, it’s cold outside! I am looking at our backyard after two recent snowfalls with accumulation on this bright sunny morning. And it’s -6° F outside. Last night our family was all under warm quilts. Does the cold weather inspire you to make comfy warm quilts for your family and loved ones? I am planning two quilts at the moment, one with a Valentine’s theme and one is red and white.

Sadly, we had to postpone our Brown Bag Hustle for the second year in a row due to high numbers for COVID in our community. But I was so happy to see almost 40 people at our virtual meeting. Big thanks to Kate Brennan for arranging a last minute speaker for January with organization tips and tricks for our sewing spaces. I pride myself in being organized. So much so that I forget where I put things! I just cleaned my sewing space this week before I dig in and start (or finish) a project.

We will have some turnover on our board in April but before then, we need some willing ladies to step up to fill these positions. Marti Austin is calling many of you to ask you to serve. I have been on the board for six years. It’s been a great way to meet and get to know members. Plus, we have really fun board meetings.

I hope you are planning your Iron Quilter quilt. I just had the inspiration on Sunday and it’s all cut and ready to put together.

I am leaving the house in a few minutes for a quilt retreat. After neglecting my craft due to the holidays, I’m ready to dig in for five days with my friends in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Stay safe and healthy. Spring is coming (reference to GOT and If you know, you know!).

Warmest Valentines love to you all.

Christine Tindell, President

Guild Opportunities

If you’d like to be more involved in our guild, there are many opportunities. Please email or call Marti Austin and you can learn about several positions that are open on the Board for the fiscal year starting May 1, 2022. Serving on the board gives members many opportunities to meet other members, allows a member to help guide the guild, and helps to foster friendships with others who share a passion for quilting. Remember, most of us only regret the opportunities we didn’t take; most of us don’t regret the choices we do make.

Quilt Show 2023 Thoughts

Just thinking about what needs to be happening right now on the Quilt show timeline. The planning for the raffle quilt needs to be started now! Do you have an inspiration, idea or just some thoughts to suggest? Get some friends together and talk it over. The quilt needs to be completed by the beginning of 2023 in order to be ready to take photos and print advertising. Ticket sales begin in the spring of 2023.

Anyone who may be toying with the thought of being show chairwoman, please give me a call. Perhaps you want to chair with another person; that’s even better! I am in the process of writing all the steps necessary to do the job. I am more than willing to make the process easy to do. The most important part is the ladies who chair all the committees. We have great talent who can get things done. Don’t be afraid of it; it’s a fun job.
