Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at 7:00 PM via Zoom

It has been so good to see everyone at the Zoom meetings and I had so much fun at the Modified Quilt As You Go workshop. I cannot wait for the upcoming workshop with HollyAnne Knight. If you are not familiar with HollyAnne’s work, please check out String & Story.

The signup for her workshop is a little different than our usual method in that she has a link on our site for you to sign up through her. Don’t worry if you have already signed up the usual way; we have transferred the registrations over to her. You should be receiving your supply list and homework shortly. If you do not receive anything from HollyAnne, please let us know!

We are working on a Retreat to Your Happy Place for December – more details to follow.

We have two more amazing virtual workshops after the New Year, one by Cindy Grisdela on Modern Improv and one by Lori Dickman on working with curves.

If there are techniques or teachers you would like me to look into, please shoot me an email… we are planning through March of 2022 already!

“See” you in a few weeks!

PLEASE NOTE: if an email is not sent before the meeting, the Zoom meeting information can be found on at Members Only.

Christine’s Chatter

President Christine.jpg

I really love fall. The colors this year have been just fantastic. The red maples in our front yard are still putting on a show but soon the trees will be bare and then comes the snow. Then we will see the beautiful colors that come with the holiday season. Have the colors of the season inspired you to create something gorgeous? Are you working on gifts for Christmas?

I have been working on long abandoned projects. I am currently working on one that was started in 2008 and it’s close to the quilting stage. I feel very accomplished!

I was inspired by Rita’s quilt presented by Sarah Evans. I have enjoyed finishing projects that other quilters have begun but I don’t know if I would ever have the energy to complete something this complex. The organization and dedication that went into this project proves that the community of makers always come through.

Our Program chairs are bringing us another great speaker for November with two opportunities to do a virtual workshop.

Our next meeting is November 17. It is encouraging to see all that attended last month. We had 51 attendees! Thank you for staying connected.

The Board will meet virtually on November 10th at 7:00 PM on Zoom. If you are on the Board, the sign-in information will be sent to you.

Keep on stitching and creating. It helps with the isolation and loneliness. I have been listening to books while I sew and I think I listened to three books in October.

Hope to see you all soon,

Christine Tindell, President

QUILT OF VALOR Block of the Month

Twin Star block2.jpeg

For November, make two blocks of your choice for your “Flying Flags” quilt. I made a Twin Star block, 6-inch finished, for the star portion of one of the blocks.

More information can be found on the Village Quilters Service page.

Hopes and Dreams

Hopes & Dreams, Inc. is a registered 501(c) charity with 100% of sales going to ALS research. It is supported and funded in full by Quilters Dream Batting. 1,091 quilts and craft items were received for the 2019-2020 challenge. From the previous challenge year Hopes & Dreams was able to donate $60,000 to Emory School of Medicine, Dr. Nicholas Boulis' laboratory, for ALS research. They hope to donate more money this year.

We are off to a good start with nine finishes so far. All the details for the challenge can be found in the Service page of our website. Julie Milne recommends that a lap size quilt is perfect for someone in a wheelchair.

Quilts from the Village Show 2021

I can't believe it’s November! We will be having our first Quilt Show meeting on the 9th. We have a wonderful group of women and some new members that have volunteered. We are needing someone to be in charge of moving the equipment to and from the show. The job involves renting a truck (we have a driver), tumbler, podium, and moving the equipment on Tuesday evening and returning it on Saturday. We are going to try to have some young people help load and unload the truck when they are not in school.

The show dates are October 1 & 2, 2021. We hope that you are all working on beautiful items to sell and to display. We sure have time now to do our favorite pastime.

We are going to plan our show as normal with the hope that all will be well by then. Other things will have to be done differently. We will have a contingency plan just in case.

See you on Zoom (glad we can at least do that).

Madge Pierce and Barb Jolley, Quilt Show Co-Chairs

Quilt Show Notifications

Letters are going out soon to shops and vendors announcing our 2021 quilt show. If you have a favorite vendor or shop that you would like to see at next year’s show, please let me know and I’ll include them in the mailing. Thanks!

Birthday Blocks

Birthday-Block-tulip-rev.jpg

Not too many more blocks before the end of the year! Since we are all more or less sequestered for the duration (however long that may be!) why not make a few extra blocks in your own colors for yourself so you will have plenty to work with when you get your birthday blocks. Stay safe in your sewing rooms and happy sewing!
