Julia McLeod – Starting With Silk

In this workshop you will learn how to use silk fabrics in your quilts.
Gather a selection of silk fabrics. If you have none, start at the thrift shop: This class can be completed using a handful of neckties and a plain silk blouse or jacket.
You can also use typical quilters cottons if you're curious to learn the two techniques.

In this 6 hour class we will:
• Identify silk fabrics and distinguish them from those made from other fibers
• Discuss fusible stabilizers and how to use them
• Learn an improvisational crazy-piecing method
• Learn a foundation piecing technique. We will draft our own simple muslin foundations

Many of you will complete the sample shown, measuring 20” square.
