Reatreat 2018

October 26-28, 2018

We quilt because we like to be creative, to show our love, to give of ourselves, to learn from others and teach others what we know. We like to share time and friendship with others. We like to learn new things and challenge ourselves.

We can do all these things at the Quilt Retreat planned for October 26-28, 2018. The retreat will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn Lake Forest/Mettawa.

What to bring: Sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and projects that you wish to work on.

The ballroom has enough room for thirty individual sewing tables, two or three ironing stations, and two cutting tables.

We need twenty paid participants by Friday, October 12. On line registrations for the retreat can be made up until October 24 (as long as there is room). The maximum number is thirty participants.

This retreat is now open to the public!

Registration: $75.00. This fee covers renting the ballroom for three days. No partial payments will be accepted for registration.

Participants at the retreat have two options for accommodation:

Option #1: Stay at the hotel for the weekend. Have the convenience of going to your room for a quick nap, sleep late if you want, sew into the wee hours of the night and no worries about driving home. Rent a hotel room, a single or share the room with a friend. The hotel offers the rate of $95 plus taxes per night (~$105 per night) and provides each occupant a breakfast voucher for Saturday and Sunday.

Option #2: Drive home after the day of sewing and sleep in your own bed.

Even if you cannot participate for all three days, you must pay the full $75 registration fee.

To sign up for the retreat

  1. Pay your registration fee online or by check. Checks should be given to Marti Austin.

  2. If you want the convenience of a hotel room, tell Marti Austin your room preference (single or double) by email (president@villagequilters.org) or phone. Email is preferred. If you chose a double, tell her with whom you will be sharing a room. Marti will provide the hotel with a master list of attendees so our rooms will be reserved.

When you resister at the hotel on Friday afternoon, the hotel will know if you are sharing a room and with whom. If you want a single, the hotel will know that too. Registration will be EASY.

Room availability can only be guaranteed if the room is requested by October 12.

At the retreat

Bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and projects that you wish to work on.

The ballroom has enough room for thirty individual sewing tables, two or three ironing stations, and two cutting tables. The hotel provides the ironing boards and hotel irons.

There may be room to put up a design wall or two. Bring your own 3M strips to attach it to the wall.

Arrival is anytime after 8:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26. Every person will have their own table. Enter through the front entrance, pass the registration desk, round the corner past the pool and continue along the hall until you come to the end. The ballroom is on the right.

Later during the day on Friday you may register for your hotel room. You may ask for a single or a double. If you get a double, you split the cost with your friend!

Remember there are two costs and two steps:
